Left Relo Kit

Right Relo Kit

We  GL1800 riders that upgraded from Valkyries were waiting anxiously for Chet to make the move since he is one of the guys that invented several functional goodies for the Valkyrie. Well, he finally did it and sooner than expected, he started making things for the GL1800 and posting excellent and descriptive pages with ideas and pictures. If you want to see what I mean, then visit his page at: http://www.rattlebars.com/

Thes Relo Kit was designed to move the driver's pegs forward like an inch. It doesn't sound a lot but definitively makes a big difference. If you have a small foot, these puppies will make you shift better. In my case, I do have a 12" foot but after installing the Kuryakyn pegs to replace the OEM, they moved my feet backwards like an inch. Some people install the pegs backward but I don't like that setup. On long rides, I felt my legs cramped (I'm 6' tall)  and when Chet came with this kit, I installed it right away. They do move forward the pegs forward so I feel better on long rides and may keep my Kury pegs that looks very nice. Chet also came with a Kick Shifter for those that like a Heel/Toa shifter for the Wing. If you will buy the shifter, then this Relo Kit is a must.

Installation is very easy. It consist of metal plates that are installed over the frame, so your Peg mounts are installed over those plates. As you may see in the pictures, this kit move the pegs forward only, so the new position do NOT affect the clearance of the bike. Nice product Chet.

GL1800 Dashboard Replacement AXI Corp. Black Spruce Burl Wood (Darker Tone)

$199.95

Dashboard

This is a replacement for the OEM dashboard. I really like this one because wood goes very well with my red bike, but this wood color is darker than others I have seen. Also they combined it with black accents as you may see around the instruments, the digital display and the key ring. The finish is excellent and these people have all different colors and combinations for any taste. They even have color matched and carbon fiber looks.

Archos Jukebox Archos Studio 10

Trunk installation

 Remote control

Since I have so many problems with the OEM CD Player, I decided to go the MP3 way. Archos have a good reputation and the advantage of storing a lot of music, enough for a whole day driving without repeating a song. I also liked the idea of having a remote control but the cable that came with it was very short. Also I wanted to install it in the trunk to have it covered from the weather. I purchased the Car Kit also to have both the remote control and the power adapter. Here is the detail installation:

1. I purchased a female 12v connector at Radio Shack.

2. Took out the seat and top shelter.

3. Below the seat, there are several connectors with direct or switched 12v current. I decided for the switched one and there is a good spot where the CB is connected. I tested the cables with a test light. Usually solid dark green is ground and green with another color stripe is the positive.

 4. Spliced the cables and connected the female 12v connecton, installing it at the trunk, then connected the Archos 9v converter to the female and that is all for the power to Archos.

 5. Now, if you don't want to use the remote, just purchase at Radio Shack a mini stereo phono jack extension (female/male) with 6 or 8 feet and from the AUX connector located below the left front pocket, connect the extension up to the trunk and connect it to the Archos phone jack.

6. If you want to use the remote, then you will need to extend the cable since it is too short (one foot). I purchased a 12 feet telephone cable (also at Radio Shack), spliced cut and spliced the remote cable. There will be exposed tree cables and a ground mesh. There will be a red cable, that is the remote pulse connector. Also there are two very small cables covered with aluminum foil. Taking out the foil you will see one white and one black wires...those are the left/right audio cables. Since the telephone cable have four wires, I just soldered the remote wires to the telephone wires.

7. Then connected the AUX cable from the GL1800 to the remote's phone connector and the extended remote cable to the Archos phone output connector. It works for me a four more other bikes from friends. Doing the first one was hard but now is easy for me :) 8. I still need to open the trunk and turn on the Archos but I control everything else from the remote. Also I'm able to switch playlists without opening the trunk.

Finally, if you want to get rid of any annoying background sound created by any device connected to the AUX port and using 12V connection, then you need to install a  "Ground Loop Insulator" from Radio Shack. That device connects between the bike's AUX connector and the remote control. The connection cables are different (RCA type vs Mini Phone Jack) but Radio Shack sells all the converters, gender changers and adapters to make it work. You will figure it out once you see how it looks like. The item # is 270-054.

I don't need to say the the sound is AWESOME!!!
